Proponents of the ritvik system say Prabhupad set up the ritvik system so gurus would initiate all new devotees with Prabhupad as the guru, not themselves. The gurus are just middle men to initiate on Srila Prabhupad’s behalf – even though he’s deceased. People who don’t believe in ritvik (like ISKCON Mumbai) say the ritvik system would end the centuries old guru parampara system where the student becomes a guru and takes on disciples of his own.
